Günter Heinz

Born in Zeitz (formerly GDR),
studied mathematics in Halle and music in Dresden and Berlin.

His first employment was as a mathematician at the Academy of Mines at Freiberg and at the Academy of Sciences at Berlin where he graduated in 1983.

Since 1987 he has worked as a freelance musician focusing mainly on contemporary compositions and improvisation.

He has premiered several works and recorded for radio and CD in Germany, Switzerland and USA.

Between 1992-93 he worked as guest composer at the Electronic Studio of the Musikakademie Basel.

In 1994 he was teaching free improvised music at the Conservatory of Sardinia at Cagliari.

He has participated in some of the most important music festivals in Berlin, Leipzig, Stavanger, Genf, Antwerp, Rümlingen ...

His compositions has been performed in Moscow, Madrid, Florida, Malta ...

He collaborated with Bernd Koeppen, Kent Carter, Bill Elgart, Michael Lytle, Guenter Mueller, Klaus Koch, Lou Grassi, Hartmut Dorschner, Günter Baby Sommer, Stephen Montague, Malcolm Goldstein, Steve Swell, George Cremaschi and many others.

He is artistic director of the Festival of Free Improvised Music in Dresden.
